Rhino Bumper Turret

Combining the effectiveness of a low attack bumper turret
with the flow performance of a roof turret.

The RHINOTM II a multi-position high performance bumper turret is the latest innovative product for the aviation fire safety industry. This light weight, versatile tool adds extended capabilities to ARFF vehicles. The RHINOTM combines the high flow rate of conventional roof turrets with the lowered position of the bumper turret to provide better control of the fire. A small boom mechanism places the nozzle forward of the cab with the operator looking over the water/foam flow. This feature gives the operator a much broader view of the incident area since the over-spray from the nozzle is not directed on the windshield or roof.

A Tilt-Down feature of the RHINOTMII allows the nozzle to be lowered to near ground level - a valuable asset for quick control of spill fires. It gives the operator a clear view of the effectiveness of the water/foam application. This innovative feature has proven, in successive comprehensive independent testing, to be a more effective approach to fire fighting than the conventional roof turret, utilizing up to 40% less agent. The Tilt-Down feature will also position the nozzle device in various positions below the horizontal plane to address a variety of tasks, such as under fuselage responses, wheel brake fires, etc., as well as easy access for maintenance. Conversely, the nozzle can be elevated to near roof level when maximum elevation of the water/foam stream is required.

The automatic nozzle is precisely matched to the turret discharge performance requirements. A large variety of high flow and low flow combinations can be provided, customized to the vehicle's water capacity. The nozzle has the capability of rotating 210º horizontally, thus making positioning the vehicle less critical. The nozzle device is also provided with two (2) high intensity lights to enhance the night time capabilities.

Automatic positioning.  An automatic nozzle leveling feature quickly positions the nozzle for optimum attack during the roll-in approach to an aircraft incident and helps keep the nozzle on target when traversing uneven ground. An automatic "DEPLOY" and "PARK" feature is provided to quickly move the nozzle to a discharge or stowed position.

The optional dry chemical nozzle gives greater depth to the overall performance of the RHINOTMII. Encapsulated dry chemical technology is used to combine the rapid fire extinguishing capabilities of dry chemical as well as its ability to extinguish three dimensional fires with the sealing and securing capabilities of foam. The volume nozzle foam flow encapsulates the dry chemical discharge to provide greater distance and more precise placement of the dry chemical agent.

All of the dry chemical reaches the fire and it is not affected by cross winds. Visibility and clean up are enhanced as drifting dry chemical clouds are eliminated.
